NATURAL, EFFICIENT, MODERN...OLD
Second Floor: 1922-24 - The First World War brought contracts for woolen socks and mittens for the men in the trenches' in France. Woolen mittens were made by hand and socks were done on a machine (seen here). They would make 18 dozen socks and work 12 hours a day, starting at 6:00am for $18.00 a week.
From its beginnings in 1894, servicing local sheepherders, to knitting socks for the doughboys in Europe, the Frankenmuth Woolen Mill has served its Country and Community for over one-hundred years.
